5 Benefits of Being a Work At Home Parent

September 12th, 2008 by Scott

This is meant to be a fun post, so I hope you see the humor needed to be a work at home parent.  All suggestions are fictional, but have crossed my mind a few times this week.

1.  Grocery shopping at 10pm has it’s privileges. The kids are asleep and you won’t have any problem finding a parking spot.  The stores are also being stocked full of fresh produce and milk.  You can actually shop with a regular shopping cart, and not the kids cart with two steering wheels.

2.  Late to school. Next time you’re late to school because a client conference call started at 8am, tell the teacher that your child just couldn’t get out of bed on time.  This also works if you forgot the snack at school.

3.  Don’t feel like making a playdate? You received an unexpected email requesting a report immediately and can’t take your children over to your friends house.  Sometimes playdates turn into all day play-a-thons and you need to get some work done.

4.  You need a vacation. Since you work for yourself, you don’t get a paid vacation.  Call a friend or relative and tell them you need help watching the kids in order to meet a client and negotiate a deal.  Well, do they really have to know the client is your friend and you want to play golf?

5.  Cut a phone call short. Have one of those calls that’s going nowhere fast and you don’t want to be stuck listening for hours?  It’s time for your little assitant to chime in and have a temper tantrum.  The person your talking with should definitely understand that you need to be a good parent and deal with this situation with your child.
