Dads Home

July 25th, 2008 by Scott

When you come home from work do you look forward to hearing the sound of your kids running towards the door, screaming “Dads Home”? When I worked in San Francisco, both of my children were in daycare and I often recall getting excited each time I heard it. In fact, if I got to the daycare before some of the other parents, I would have many children shouting “Dads Here”.

Working from home has opened so many opportunities for work and spending more time with my kids, that I often forgot about the warm greeting I received. Now I get to hear it more than once a day, and I love it! If you find yourself thinking a lot about your children while at work or at the office, that could be a sign that you might want to consider working from home. Some guys might not enjoy working from home, and think it wold not be a productive atmosphere. Other guys might miss cooperative work environments and the social aspect of the office culture. I did miss going to lunch with work friends, but did not miss the meetings or training seminars. Those can be as effective through a conference call, another benefit of working from home.

Now, I no longer get to hear my kids shout out “Dads Home”, as it’s been replaced by “Moms Home”. I love it! The kids and I work well as a team and we look forward to 5:30, when mom comes home. My most productive time of the day is after 5:30, and I can start putting ideas together and focusing on my work calendar. If you love to hear the sound of “Dads Home”, maybe you should try telecommuting from home 1 or 2 days a week? Have you ever considered working from home?
