Creating Cool Graphics

May 2nd, 2008 by Jay

Cool graphics on a web site make it stand out from others, and help it to seem more professional.

When you first start out creating a web site, it probably looks pretty drab compared to others you’ve seen. Unless you’re a graphics whiz, you probably aren’t very good at creating the sorts of graphics you’d like to use. Stylized text is pretty common, and while it can be overused, in moderation it can make a page look pretty slick.

Luckily for those of us who are graphics challenged, there are free tools out there to create some nice graphics.

FlamingText.com

FlamingText.com is, as the name implies, a site for creating all sorts of graphical text. It’s primarily intended for use in MySpace profiles and similar sites, but you can put the text you create anywhere. Here’s a sample I just created on the site:

The site also allows you to create custom buttons, download new fonts, etc. Another site that provides similar tools for free is CoolText.com.

GlitterGraphics.com

GlitterGraphics.com has, as you might expect, lots of glittery graphics. It also has a variety of other cool graphics, though, so even if you don’t like glitter take a look. These graphics are also intended for MySpace profiles, so are often just too cute for words. You should be able to find something appropriate for pretty much any web site you’re creating.

After all, who could resist this little kitty?

Regardless of your skill at creating graphics, there are plenty of free tools and graphics available online. Spend a little time using them, and you’ll be able to create a web site that is a cut above the average.

I have used that Flamingtext before and I really liked it. It’s easy to use too!
