April 2nd, 2008 by Lori

Aside from creating the perfect home office, you will find that many tools are needed to work at home. Hopefully some of the things I talk about here will help you

BUILD A SITE

No matter what you decide to do, you should get a website/blog. This increases the exposure by 100%!

(1) Blogger.com is free and a good start but lacks respect unfortunately. If you choose to go that route, I highly recommend that you, at the very least, buy your own domain name! Another super easy and quick way to get started is with “The Internet Based Family Easy Web Site Builder“. Lots of options there and very professional. This is a great way to go if you have NO html knowledge at all.

Search Engine Optimization

(2) This is important and using the free keyword selector tool can help in this area. When people do searches via Google or Yahoo, you want them to see your website on the first page don’t you? Finding the right keywords to put in your website/blog can will help achieve this.

TAX PREPARATION

(3) You can’t start preparing early enough people! It’s imperative to keep understand the tax laws that apply to you and to keep paperwork and receipts organized. A great resource is the work at home tax center. You can file your taxes, ask questions, and more.

EDUCATE YOURSELF

(4) You’ve decided that you want to start your own business but feel overwhelmed of the unknown, it’s time to get educated. Research, research, research - this is how you learn folks. There are places to go and people to talk to. I suggest Talk Home Business. LOTS going on there and they have a forum where you’ll be able to get answers to those burning WAH questions.

ESSENTIALS

(5) You need to have the tools to help run your home office and be successful.

  • Copier And Fax Machine
  • Telephone with headset
  • File Cabinet
  • Internet, duh!
  • Office Supplies
  • Task Manager
  • Business cards

Hopefully you’ll find these useful. There are tons of resources, tips, and tools out there and help around every corner but if you want honest and reliable information, then you’re better off coming here for all those WAH questions, concerns, and needs!
